Phillips Surgical was founded by Dr. Michael J. Phillips in 2020. He previously co-founded Vector Surgical, a medical device company focused on tissue orientation. The products are used worldwide today.

Both Dr. Phillips and his senior partner felt that Fine Needle Aspiration (FNA) could be performed with more precision, leading to better, more accurate outcomes. The current method relies on gross motor skills to perform FNA. They wanted to remove gross motor skills and convert it to fine motor skills, hence the development of PrecisionFNA. This device uses fine motor skills to perform FNA by using fingers and wrist movement leading to more accuracy and greater precision.
